Inspiriert von Naomi Kleins Bestseller „Die Entscheidung: Kapitalismus vs. Klima“ porträtiert die Dokumentation sieben kraftvolle Persönlichkeiten, die weltweit an vorderster Front gegen den Klimawandel kämpfen. Der Zusammenhang zwischen der Konzentration an CO2 in unserer Atmosphäre und dem globalen Wirtschaftssystem, das immer mehr davon produziert, führt den Film zu seiner mutigen Idee: Dass in der existenziellen Herausforderung, das Klima zu retten, die Chance auf eine radikale Neuordnung steckt. Trotz des unangenehmen Themas bestärkt und ermutigt „This Changes Everything“ sein Publikum und entwirft eine gerechtere Welt, wie wir alle sie uns wünschen.

Gefilmt an 211 Tagen in neun Ländern und fünf Kontinenten über vier Jahre hinweg, von Montana's Flußbett des Powder Rivers bis zu Alberta's Teersand, von der Küste Südindiens bis nach Peking und darüber hinaus, zeigt der Film, wir können nicht warten, dass die Politik, Wirtschaft oder sonst wer kommt, und sich ernsthaft und ausreichend dem Klimawandel entgegen stellt. Die Verantwortung liegt bei jedem von uns. Der Film ruft dazu auf, die Veränderung, die wir sehen wollen, selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Filmed over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents over four years, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change.

Directed by Avi Lewis, and inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction bestseller This Changes Everything, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.

Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.
The movie calls on us to be proactive, to take action on the change we want to see.
